Taqwa - Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Taqwa ("the App") is an Islamic prayer companion app developed by Talha ("we", "us", "our"). Missing prayers is rarely the intention — it just happens. You pick up the phone to check one thing, and an hour disappears. Taqwa addresses this with a soft lock during prayer times, helping Muslims reclaim their prayer time from the distraction of the modern world.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding your data. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our practices.

Taqwa does not require any account or login. We do not collect personal identification information such as your name, email, or phone number.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Location Data

With your explicit permission, the App accesses your device's GPS location to:

Calculate accurate prayer times for your geographic position
Determine the Qibla (direction of Mecca) for prayer

Your location coordinates are sent to the Aladhan API (aladhan.com) solely to retrieve prayer times. We do not store your location on any server we operate.

2.2 IP-Based Geolocation (Fallback)

If GPS is unavailable, the App may use ip-api.com to determine your approximate location (city-level accuracy) for Qibla direction. This service receives your device's public IP address automatically as part of the network request. We do not control or store this data.

2.3 Locally Stored Data

The following data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to us or any third party:

Prayer history — which prayers you completed, dismissed, or missed
Prayer streaks — your current and longest streak counts
App preferences — theme, notification settings, overlay duration, adhan preferences
Cached location — your last known Qibla direction for offline use

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

We want to be clear about what we never collect:

Names, email addresses, or any personal identifiers
Device identifiers (IMEI, Advertising ID, etc.)
Contacts, call logs, or messages
Photos, camera, or microphone data
Browsing history or activity in other apps
Payment or financial information

The App contains no advertisements, no analytics SDKs, no crash reporting services, and no tracking of any kind.

4. Third-Party Services

The App communicates with the following third-party services:

5. Permissions

The App requests the following Android permissions and the reasons for each:

Do Not Disturb Access	Temporarily silence notifications while the prayer overlay is active, restored when overlay is dismissed
Vibrate	Provide haptic feedback for prayer notifications and overlay interactions
Wake Lock	Keep the screen on while the prayer overlay is displayed
Foreground Service	Run the prayer overlay and prayer time monitoring reliably in the background
Internet	Fetch prayer times from Aladhan API

6. Data Storage & Security

All user data is stored locally on your device using Android's DataStore, which provides app-private encrypted storage. No data is stored on external servers operated by us.

If you have Android automatic backup enabled in your device settings, your app preferences may be included in your device's backup to Google Drive. This is controlled by your device settings and subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

7. Data Retention

Prayer daily records: Retained for 30 days, then automatically cleaned up
Prayer history & streaks: Retained as long as the App is installed
Preferences: Retained until you change them or uninstall the App

Uninstalling the App permanently deletes all locally stored data. You can also clear the App's data at any time through your device's Settings > Apps > Taqwa > Clear Data.

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not specifically directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the App does not collect personal identification information from any user, no special provisions are necessary.

9. Your Rights & Choices

Location permission: You can revoke location access at any time through your device settings. The App will still work with manually entered prayer times.
Notifications: You can disable notifications through your device settings or within the App.
Data deletion: Uninstall the App or use "Clear Data" in your device's app settings to delete all local data.
Overlay permission: You can revoke overlay permission at any time through your device settings.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
